Last week our Emerging Trends and Training Coordinator, Vicki, took part in a panel discussion at Westminster as part of the Scottish Affairs Select Committee inquiry into drug use in Scotland.
Alongside academic researchers from across Scotland, Vicki discussed the definitions of “problem” drug use, drug use in prison, drug consumption facilities and any social inequalities which may lead to people experiencing drug related harm.
I would recommend that the definition of problem drug use
is redefined to encompass all drugs and, therefore, we expand our
research, our evaluation and our services to meet this new definition.
The panel session complimented earlier evidence given by people with lived experience and is part of a wider consultation led by the Scottish Affairs Committee on the topic of problem drug use.
